A Mom was quite upset after a sales associate at a store told her daughter she needed SPANX if she wanted to wear “that dress”
Mom and daughter were out dress shopping for the daughter’s formal. Something that is a great bonding experience for parents. They two of them were having fun, until one clerk came in and told the daughter she should get spanx.
To some of us, we may think “I wear them” and that is OK. If someone told you that you NEEDED them, how would you feel. Personally, I would feel pretty bad about myself.
Yesterday we talked a lot about mental health. One form of that can be body image issues. Feeling as though we are not good enough the way we are. Then a stranger reiterates our concerns.
If someone feels great, and is smiling and loves what they are wearing…it is not up to us to tell them how to be “better”. Whether or not this woman was trying to HELP, is not the point. Let people be who they want. Let them wear what they want.
This mom wanted the post to be shared so eventually it would make its way to the store clerk…and I think it will do just that!
