Okay. Is it just me? Am I missing something here?
I’ve been avoiding watching Nelly Furtado sing her rendition of the National Anthem all weekend because all I saw on social media were comments like “Take Away Her Canadian Passport” “WORST. THING. EVER!!!” “It sounds like a cat being thrown off a building and then repeatedly run over.”
Soo obviously, I didn’t want to watch that train wreck. But knowing we would be talking about it on the show this morning, I pulled the audio and… Can I just say, I don’t get it?!
What is everyone’s problem?! I was expecting some unholy then thou, couldn’t recognize the anthem for anything crap. But I honestly think people are being WAY too critical.
Sure. It’s not your typical hockey rendition where the last note is held for too long just to prove the singer can do it (that’s more painful in my opinion) but I really don’t see anything wrong with it. The amount of people who do change the anthem where it is almost unrecognizable, that is more painful.
Sure, the flute was different, there was a couple pitch changes but nothing unbearable.
What I would like to say to you nay sayers? You get out there, sing the anthem and do a better job. I dare you. I certainly couldn’t.
