You go girl!!!! Emma Stone has been named QUEEN of Hollywood.
….Okay, slightly an overstatement but she is on top of Hollywood as the highest paid of actress of 2017 according to Forbes. The 28-year-old reportedly raked in $26 million in the past year, thanks in HUGE part to her Oscar-winning role in La La Land.
But this hasn’t all come super easy for Emma. She has fought very hard to get to where she is!!! I think we can all agree on that!
She has been a HUGE vocal critic when it comes to pay disparities between men and women in Hollywood. Even going as far to say that male co-stars have even taken pay cuts to ensure parity.
In a recent interview with Out Magazine she talked about the pay gap in Hollywood quite candidly: “In my career so far, I’ve needed my male co-stars to take a pay cut so that I may have parity with them. And that’s something they do for me because they feel it’s what’s right and fair. That’s something that’s also not discussed, necessarily: that our getting equal pay is going to require people to selflessly say, ‘That’s what’s fair.’”
Seriously, you go girl!!!
Stone was followed by Jennifer Aniston, who earned $25.5 million, mostly from endorsements she does. And followed by last year’s top-earner Jennifer Lawrence who “fell” to third place, with $24 million. Melissa McCarthy and Mila Kunis round out the top five.
Still think there is not a problem in Hollywood? How are these stats for you:
- This year, three women passed the $20 million benchmark, while four surpassed it last year.
- The cumulative total is down as well, 16% this year from $205 million in 2016.
- Female characters fill only 28.7% of speaking roles in film and roles for women 40 and above are even less.
- However, 60% of this year’s list members are over the age of 40.
We still have a long way to go but we are thankful for young women like Emma Stone who speak out for this daily injustice!
