Halloween is coming up quick!
Do you have a costume planned yet? On a budget?
Here are some DIY costume ideas for adults and kids to get your creative juices flowing that won’t break the bank!
1. The Walking Dead – Negan
Grab a black leather jacket from your local thrift shop and a baseball bat, and you’re ready to take care of some walkers! To make it really ‘authentic’, grow a scruffy beard and draw some ‘barbed wire’ with black and silver markers onto the bat. You can add a little bit of red paint depending on how ‘hungry’ Lucille is.

2. A Skein Of Yarn
Looking for a simple costume to make? Buy some coloured rope (or you can use pipe cleaners twisted together) and a piece of white bristol board. Bundle and bunch up the rope like a pack of yarn, tape it all into place inside the bristol board, and wrap the bristol board around yourself. Get two wooden dowels and glue a wood ball to the end to look like giant knitting needles. For an added touch, write on the bristol board the size and type of yarn.

3. Doctor Who Tardis
If you’re a Doctor Who fan, grab a cardboard box, paint it blue, and turn it into a tardis! Grab a blue graduation cap to wear as a hat and use it for the top of the Tardis.

4. Curious George – Man In The Yellow Hat
A great children’s costume idea! Head over to your local thrift shop and buy yellow coloured clothing. Yellow pants, coat/jacket/dress shirt, tie, and of course – a yellow hat! Put a black ribbon around the hat, and some polka dots down the tie. Finish it off with black socks, black shoes, and a stuffed monkey plush toy!

7. Baby Octopus
Have a young one and not sure what to dress him or her up as? How about a cute little octopus! Just stuff some socks, sew on some buttons and attach the ‘tentacles’ to a belt. Grab a winter toque and sew some eyes onto it and you’re all set to go!

Really on a budget but still want to be a recognizable character? Grab a red t-shirt, red winter toque, and glue two white foam balls with a black circle on each one drawn with marker for eyes. Add an orange nose, and you have Elmo!
