Who Invented Chocolate Milk?
Chocolate Milk was invented by Hans Sloane in the late 1680s. While on a trip to Jamaica, he encountered a beverage the locals drank that was made with cocoa mixed with water. He experimented using milk instead of water to give it a creamy taste that was more pleasant, and perfected the best ratio to mix the cocoa with milk.
Bringing the recipe back with him to England, he started to make what we now know as chocolate milk.
In 1828 the Van Houten company in Amsterdam invented the cocoa pressing method which allowed them to manufacture a light, fluffy chocolate powder to easily dissolve in milk.
Today, chocolate milk comes in all different forms including premixed that you buy in cartons in the store, it can be made at home with either cocoa powder, melted chocolate, chocolate syrup or chocolate milk mix.
